lions and tigers

Our youngest son turned three this week and we had a jungle party with so many friends and family to celebrate. It was lovely.
Here is the cake I made. Thank you internet for the inspiration. I usually get a bit too off the grid with my cake decorating and it turns out kind of crazy but this one came out pretty well and was sort of stripy on the inside too!

Berndnaut Smilde

My obsession with weather continues as the rain beats down outside Berndnaut Smilde has found a way to bring clouds indoors, What I would give to see one in the flesh. Looks like I have between now and the 17th of September to get myself to Harrlem.

birds eye

I have been painting lots of birds this week. They are odd creatures when you look at them closely especially their eyes. Beady little things.

Carson Ellis

Oh Carson Ellis the stories you tell. I like her work so very much. Her illustrations are so lyrical and the way she collaborates with her husband on album art and novels is romance in motion.  I like her style in all ways  and now why wouldn't you go buy a dapper wolf smoking a pipe?
Give me two good reasons.

emotional weather report

I have a new studio in the city and have been there in every spare moment painting like mad and studying the ever changing weather. It is a good feeling. The sky around here has been particularly spectacular over the last little while, full of drama.

bush walks

I have spent the last two weekends in different parts of country Victoria which has been so fantastic. Although I am from the city I love the bush and tried to go for as many bush walks as possible. It really felt like Winter was begining, everything was wet and dormant although there was some pretty spectacular fungi. It was really lovely especially taking the boys into a forest to do some exploring.

I honestly don't know what he was looking at.

P.SI have had to reconfigure my domaine mapping so if you are having trouble looking at my website check back in a day or so!!

Wednesday 4 June 2014

phosphorescent

I stumbled upon this musician Phosphorescent and I just can't stop listening to it. There are two songs in particular "My Dove my Lamb" and a cover of Towns Van Zandt "Why she is acting this way" that slay me.  I have both on repeat over and over while I work away on my computer. It takes me to another place with its rambling lyrics, circular melodies and its dreamy desert feel. I love his record art with its gangly nudity and 60's aesthetic.  If you are on Spotify I would have a good listen its the best.
